There are some 6,500 different languages spoken around the globe. We Are Not Ants – originally written and first publish in Spanish – will soon be available in English and Italian, and furthermore we are working on a German version.
That’s 4 languages! Peanuts you might think. But make the numbers. That makes some 1,1 billion potential readers, or one seventh of the world’s population.
And thanks to Global Voices, more people know about We Are Not Ants, as last month one of their editors Erniesto Priego published a great article in English and Spanish that was then translated into Italian, French, Japanese, Portuguese and Aymara. By the way: did you know that Aymara, spoken by 2,2 Million people in the Andes, Peru, Chile and Argentina, is one of the few Native American Languages with over a million speakers? So, don’t be an ant, or Jaqix janiw K’isimiriktanti !
