We are happy to announce that our book has been downloaded more that 600 times since we published it free and online!

We celebrate one year since the launch of We Are Not Ants the best way: by releasing the book free online and presenting the English version! Now, optimists and pessimists can download it and learn about how humans have made this a better world.
We Are Not Ants went on sale in both paper and digital on January 14 2011, and in less than 10 days it ranked 5th in the retail site of FNAC and 3rd in the ranking of sold essays in the website of El Corte Inglés.
In May 2011 we released the Italian version of the book, ”Non Siamos Formiche – una guida per l’ottimista informato“, also available in paper and digital formats.
On the other hand, within its first year, the project directory of We Are Not Ants has brought together over 500 civic innovation initiatives and continues to grow thanks to the contributions of users.

Interview with Nomad Earth

Today we have exciting news! The first German article about We Are Not Ants is published. It contains pictures of the book and a very interesting interview with Doris about the (un-)importance of pessimists, how the idea for book was born and where it is going to.
The interviewer is Mario Hainzl, team member of Nomad Earth, a beautiful online platform, magazine and a space for inspiration for people interested in sustainable travelling, outdoor-activities and for all people who are not afraid to broaden their horizon.

April 23rd is always is a very special day in Catalonia and especially in Barcelona. It’s the World Book Day, the anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and Sant Jordi’s day. Sant Jordi – also known as Saint George, the Dragon Fighter – is the protector of lovers. Every 23rd of April lovers give each other gifts: a rose and a book.
Our idea for this year’s Sant Jordi was to give away 20 Bookcrossing Packs, each one consisting of a shirt and the No Somos Hormigas book. The only condition for this present was the liberty of the book: All books are registered at www.bookcrossing.com and they all have a unique code, with the idea that people after they read the book, pass it on and then track its location on the website.

There are some 6,500 different languages spoken around the globe. We Are Not Ants – originally written and first publish in Spanish – will soon be available in English and Italian, and furthermore we are working on a German version.
That’s 4 languages! Peanuts you might think. But make the numbers. That makes some 1,1 billion potential readers, or one seventh of the world’s population.
And thanks to Global Voices, more people know about We Are Not Ants, as last month one of their editors Erniesto Priego published a great article in English and Spanish that was then translated into Italian, French, Japanese, Portuguese and Aymara. By the way: did you know that Aymara, spoken by 2,2 Million people in the Andes, Peru, Chile and Argentina, is one of the few Native American Languages with over a million speakers? So, don’t be an ant, or Jaqix janiw K’isimiriktanti !
Talking about “the optimistic innovation” at TEDxLaRioja

March 10th, 2011 Javi and Fernando will talk at TEDxLaRioja. The will explain why we should be optimistic about citizen-driven innovation and give a number of great examples of how people have come up with great and simple solutions for problems relevant on local and global levels. The talk will be in Spanish and we will share the video and the slides with you as soon as possible. Antonella Broglia, organizer of TEDxMadrid will lead through the afternoon full of interesting talks.

January 11, 2011 our book No Somos Hormigas (We Are Not Ants!) was presented in Barcelona. For the last 4 weeks we have been touring Spain to explain the idea behind this book based movement. Feedback has been fantastic so far and we are busy working on the English version of the book.
