We celebrate one year since the launch of We Are Not Ants the best way: by releasing the book free online and presenting the English version! Now, optimists and pessimists can download it and learn about how humans have made ​​this a better world.

We Are Not Ants went on sale in both paper and digital on January 14 2011, and in less than 10 days it ranked 5th in the retail site of FNAC and 3rd in the ranking of sold essays in the website of El Corte Inglés.

In May 2011 we released the Italian version of the book, ”Non Siamos Formiche – una guida per l’ottimista informato“, also available in paper and digital formats.

On the other hand, within its first year, the project directory of We Are Not Ants has brought together over 500 civic innovation initiatives and continues to grow thanks to the contributions of users.

The interviewer is Mario Hainzl, team member of Nomad Earth, a beautiful online platform, magazine and a space for inspiration for people interested in sustainable travelling, outdoor-activities and for all people who are not afraid to broaden their horizon.

Our idea for this year’s Sant Jordi was to give away 20 Bookcrossing Packs, each one consisting of a shirt and the No Somos Hormigas book. The only condition for this present was the liberty of the book: All books are registered at www.bookcrossing.com and they all have a unique code, with the idea that people after they read the book, pass it on and then track its location on the website.

That’s 4 languages! Peanuts you might think. But make the numbers. That makes some 1,1 billion potential readers, or one seventh of the world’s population.

And thanks to Global Voices, more people know about We Are Not Ants, as last month one of their editors Erniesto Priego published a great article in English and Spanish that was then translated into Italian, French, Japanese, Portuguese and Aymara. By the way: did you know that Aymara, spoken by 2,2 Million people in the Andes, Peru, Chile and Argentina, is one of the few Native American Languages with over a million speakers? So, don’t be an ant, or Jaqix janiw K’isimiriktanti !

Antonella Broglia, organizer of TEDxMadrid will lead through the afternoon full of interesting talks.
