Samasource is a nonprofit organization that brings dignified, computer-based work opportunities to people living in poverty around the world. The organization’s mission is based on the belief that poverty can be alleviated by tapping into the brainpower of the poor and empowering them as producers of goods and services in the global economy.

Samasource derives its name from the Sanskrit word sama, which means equal, and was founded in 2008. The company’s board and management team includes experts in the fields of distributed work, economic development, and outsourcing.

The organization secures contracts from enterprise customers to provide data entry, digitization, content moderation, and other outsourcing services. The work is divided into smaller tasks called “microwork” which are completed by Samasource’s distributed workforce. This workforce comes from Service Partners in 6 different countries including Haiti, India, Kenya, Pakistan, South Africa, and Uganda.

UNUM is a Collective for Creators, where your fashion ideas are voted on, made by us, and sold as yours. Your signature goes on each piece, you receive a percentage of profits, and your voice gets heard in the industry. The best part is that you can use that voice for good. UNUM makes their pieces from leftover and rescued fabrics – giving everyone a more creative and fulfilling way to go about ‘fashionable responsibility’.

BrightFarms operates hydroponic rooftop greenhouses at grocery retailers, eliminating time, distance and cost from the food supply chain. They design, finance, build and manage the operations of the BrightFarm to deliver produce at equal or higher service levels than the retailer currently requires of its other suppliers. There is no cost to the retailer to build the BrightFarm, only an obligation to purchase the output.

By selling food immediately upon harvesting, with no storage or shipping, the retailer provides its customers with produce that is visibly fresher and more attractive, and that will last meaningfully longer and be more nutritious. A BrightFarm greenhouse grows food with a fraction of the land and water, using integrated pest management; our methods produce no agricultural runoff and have a dramatically reduced carbon footprint.

Coca-Cola gets everywhere, yet essential medicines are hard to get in rural developing world communities; African public sectors struggle. Diarrhoea kills 1.5 million children every year: more than AIDS, malaria and measles combined. Over 70% in Africa go without Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS)/zinc. WHO recommend integrated ‘kits’, and ‘market forces’, ‘innovative delivery strategies’ and educational materials, to reach rural communities.

Yet transport costs are prohibitive: 40% of prices. Mothers may walk 30 km to a Health Post, to find essential medicines out-of-stock. ColaLife forms partnerships to trial new distribution partnerships and delivery models for medicines, and has designed an ‘AidPod’ to fit unused space in drinks crates – adaptable/adoptable in a range of countries, for local needs.

Luxe Home Swap is a platform for home exchange during vacations for “people with homes they’re proud of” in major cities and desirable locations – from San Francisco to Sydney, Buenos Aires to Bratislava, Chamonix to the Caribbean and more.

After the registration process and paying an annual fee, you are free to exchange homes as often as you want. A ‘Luxe’ home can be small and stylish as much as large and luxury. It’s common for members to swap a cosy city one-bedroom apartment for a bigger home in the country or by the sea, as people want different things at different times when they travel.
